The centre seeks to achieve these objectives through a structure of nine thematic programmes or Divisions.

I.        FOOD AND AGRICULTURE

For food security and sufficiency, the Centre develops control measures for diseases of plants and livestock. Monitoring and surveillance of emerging diseases through epidemiological studies and surveys for disease forecasting as a “warning service” for plant disease prevention. Others include biotechnology of important Nigerian economics crops.

II.      ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The Centre provides Government, industries contractors and organizations with a wide range of technical advice on a host of environmental issues including Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA), water resources, waste management, water quality assessment, water research, climate change and disaster management.

III.     LABORATORY AND CHEMICAL SERVICES

The activities include analysis of samples and interpretation of results. Analytical chemistry services to include toxicological studies and Quality standard development.

IV.     EDUCATION RESEARCH, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

The Centre has the capacity to conduct research and training to improve the quality of teachers, develop curricula and hence improve the quality of teachers, develop curricula and hence improve the level of performance of students in examinations.

V.       ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RESEARCH

Service on empirical studies, research analysis and advice on a wide range of issues on economy, demography and urban planning are available.

VI.     TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

The activities of this Division is centered around challenges such as Pollution prevention and response, fisheries Management, Technical training, Analysis and simulation Tests and evaluations.

VII.   RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP

CRD is available for partnership through cooperative Research and Development agreements with Government, Corporate bodies,Industries, Contractors and Service Agencies for consultancy services.
